This body of work started with an invitation to do a lecture performance as part of the symposium Extra/Ordinary Dress Code: Costuming and the Second Skin in Asia at the City University of Hong Kong. There Anne Peirson-Smith and Katrien Jacobs brought together scholars, writers, and artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines for discussions of popular culture and performative fashion styles in all their aesthetic, cultural, ritual, social, and historical dimensions.
